Various ServiceMaster Products and How They Work
The OdorGo line of products are emulsions of fragrances in water. Fuel Oil OdorGo is essentially an odor mask which overcomes residual odors after a fuel oil spill, grease, oil, or plastic fire restoration. Remember that thorough cleaning is a prerequisite before the use of any masking agent, because the agent will only be successful on traces of lingering odor.

OdorGo Room Deodorant Pro is a spicy cinnamon odor that masks better than any other fragrance we tested. It can be used where cigarette smoke or other pervading odors need to be covered for a short period of time. A citrus-based OdorGo Room Deodorant is also available. It is an alternative fragrance to the Pro, but is not as effective.

The OdorSols line of products are fragrances that are dissolved in a solvent. These products use two mechanisms for removing odors. The first is the use of a solvent, in the form of a mist, which dissolves the odor molecules in the air and then carries the molecules into the carpet or on the floor where they can be removed in a cleaning process. The second is a pleasant fragrance which is potent enough to mask the residual malodor. Fogging with OdorSol before cleaning helps penetrate and dissolve odors in situations where they are hard to reach. Fogging after cleaning is done to leave a residual mask.

FiberFresh POG is another odor mask. When a urine spot is hit with warm water during cleaning, the bacteria becomes active and the smell becomes even stronger and won't be eliminated until the carpet dries, even if much of the urine has actually been removed. Therefore, POG is spotted into the back of the carpet in the urine spot so that the fragrance will pervade the atmosphere and last until the carpet dries.

POG has another important advantage. Dogs and cats don't like its smell, so they won't return and use the same spot.

Odor Neutralizer is a specialty product which chemically oxidizes most odor molecules and makes them smell better. However, Odor Neutralizer must physically come in contact with the odor molecules. So, in places where a skunk
sprayed or garbage sat, Odor Neutralizer can be very effective. However, it is an oxidizing agent and can bleach most fabrics-so it must be used selectively and with care.

Last, ServiceMaster has a series of deodorizers and disinfectants. Many odors are caused by the growth of microorganisms. Bacteria growing in urine excretes ammonia as a by-product, which is responsible for the actual odor. Garbage smells the way it does because of bacterial growth, and there are many other examples.

SaniMaster III., GlideRinse III., MBI, and Carpet Sanitizer destroy growing bacteria and viruses and therefore eliminate mildew odor, rotting of jute backings on carpets, and other surface smells associated with bacterial growth.
